Garaža Kamba

The complex system of identity is an inconsistent network of a broad sphere of influences. It is shaped by different variables that evolve, branch and completely change over time. Identities are fluid, different, layered and multifaceted, built on a wide spectre of factors. In order to reconnect, sew and collage these different pieces together it is necessary to, first of all, deconstruct them – in order to truly build, gain awareness and – identify.
Deconstruction as a mean of construction is the basic method and concept of a branched participative platform with an aim of building a collective identity – A Rogue Phi.
This multimedia project connects different artists that, through an honest and unencumbered exchange and experimental artistic approach, collage their own creative sensibilities to the point of overlapping and layering elements in this collective identity. The research of this collective identity and its fluidity is based on the conceptual and material essence of the author Iva Korenčić which consists of an extended research of borderline personality disorder and of the extremes and intensities of emotional states through different techniques of working with textiles. It focuses on a hybrid, multimedia approach that merges sewing, knitting, colouring, painting and silkscreen printing of the collaged fragments of the author’s identity – pieces of fabric, the remains of past projects. As such, the fabric holds an endless communicative potential for identity, which is realised primarily through relating with other artists-collaborators and consequently with the exhibition’s audience itself. Deconstructing identity by seams of mutual cooperation and exchange in the space of the Kamba garage constructs a fictitious collective identity, a collective ritual in constant change which is built, beside by the author, by Lana Đurđek, Josip Kresović, Nina Maštruko i kolektiv Studio Rozi – Iva Čukelj, Ana Domljan, Ingeborg Reichel, Ivana Stećuk i Paula Tončić.
