Fermentations

Through wandering, recording, and disturbing archival materials, Fermentations marks the beginning of an exploration of the layers of the city of Zagreb—historical, natural, tactile, social, imagined, and unimagined. These layers, with their various noises, create the city we navigate daily. We wish to construct a gaze that encompasses multiple times. Beneath the pavement lies earth, and beneath that earth, water. I picked my vegetables at Zrinjevac. Let’s meet on the square at the corner of the Foundation Hospital. In summer, Ilica Street finally has shade along its entire length because they’ve planted enormous plants, weaving above the trams.

Suggestions for Wanderers:

1. Sit on a public surface. Close your eyes. Listen for 7 minutes.

2. There’s a drinking fountain in a passage on Ilica. Find it.

3. Ask passersby for directions to places that no longer exist.

4. Write down everything you notice while walking for 10 minutes.

5. Pay attention.

Biography

Mokošh,
With an interest in diverse mercurial phenomena, Mokošh has exhibited in numerous group and solo shows. She primarily works in the media of attempts, adaptations, tricks, and choices. An essayist and illusionist by nature, Mokošh spent much of her life as a lighthouse keeper. During storms that could last for days, she would record the wild sea on small analog tapes using a dictaphone while eating oranges. She kept the peels.

She traded her lighthouse life for the ocean, flowing through it as seawater. Eleven years later, she emerged on the shores of the Atlantic and became an aviator. She temporarily paused aviation to dedicate herself to collecting all textures on Earth with a handheld scanner and peeling words away from the nutritive slime of language.

This is her unauthorized biography.
