A small exhibition for daydreaming

A Small Handbook for Daydreaming is a series of self-published fanzines focused on our ever-changing worldview and the emergence of certain places, objects and situations as activation points for daydreaming where our imaginations intertwine with our memories.
A Small Exhibition for Daydreaming is an extension of the Small Handbook for Daydreaming series of zines, which are a medium for research through various visual and narrative research methods. The project takes some utopian concepts taken from queer theory to explore landscapes as new metaphors, such as the notions of landscapes of astonishment and agoraphilia. Landscapes of astonishment are proposed by J.E. Muñoz as a way to “overcome the limitations of an alienating present [that] allows one to see a different time and place.”* Aleksovski uses this term as a starting point for finding a story about a place from memory that has some personal meaning. Agoraphilia was proposed by Paul B. Preciado as a love passion sparked by a city where the material boundaries between city streets and one’s body become so blurred that “the map becomes anatomy.”**
The project has an important collaborative and participatory aspect through which Aleksovski invites other artists to contribute with visual or written material for an issue. The artists Ivana Spiroska, Simona Mancheva and Can Demir were guests in the fourth, fifth and eleventh issue, and the first participatory issue was created as part of a workshop hosted by queerANarchive (Split, Croatia) in March 2022. A Small Exhibition for Daydreaming is divided into three interconnected segments: twelve previous issues, a new collaborative issue with an emphasis on textiles created in collaboration with Stella Mikulin and Željko Beljan, and works created at the participatory zine workshop.
