No stopping (and no parking)

It all begins with the renegade of society, (industrial) material with a past function, cast aside, the ghost of the past.

Matea Šiprak’s artistic process starts on the road, abandoned construction sites and obscure places where seemingly unremarkable pieces are hidden, which the artist sorts and selects by texture, color and patina. The waste becomes sculptural
material, that in the artist’s head comes together in the possibility of putting together fine art compositions, that realize their potential within the exhibition space. Within the spatial composition there are also opened cardboard boxes in which the artist intervenes with paint, inscriptions and symbols, thus referring to her own inner world. What happens in the interior
are recurring questions about wandering, constant cycle between opposite concepts; social and intimate, openness and closedness, leisure and constant movement. By putting together the assemblage and intervening within the found material, the artist draws parallels between the relationship to herself and the relationship to society. What is the human’s relationship to inner self and how much does he/she present to the community? Discarded objects speak of the past and the unfulfilled, of a society prone to quick solutions. The question arises whether these materials are a reflection of our community, the armor under which we hide the fragile and unique, or whether they are an integral part of what constitutes an individual. With the acceptance and adoption of rejected material, the artist embraces
human insecurity.

“I feel like a puzzle that has not yet been put together.”, with this thought, the artist enters the search for answers, knowing that it never ends, but also that the resulting
composition requires a moment for observation, contemplation and assembling the whole.
