Procrastinations

The ambient installation Procrastinations by Valerija Jakuš is woven from the qualities of line and light, a wire ambulatory for pilgrims of urban events and accidental passersby in search of a moment of (un)peaceful solace. Through her work, Valerija comments on the state of listlessness and lack of motivation as a passive issue of human existence, closely tied to the motif of a deconstructed mattress, leaving behind only its skeletal frame. Here, the mattress is interpreted as a metaphor for idleness and excessive resting, as well as a necessary element of life. However, the absence of the soft material of the mattress provides a twist to the initial assumption of comfort. The mattress is not solely linked to the negative aspects of laziness; it also represents an essential human need—something universal and indispensable for human existence. Yet, it raises the question: to what extent is this stifling fjaka (a state of relaxed indolence) an element of necessity, and to what extent does it offer true rest to a person who is postponing their life?
