SPASMUS HUMANUS

This ambient is accompanied by a small glossary that introduces basic terms, issues, and starting points; the associations of the artist and her reflections. Neither the glossary nor the exhibition aims to impose a single perspective or interpretation. On the contrary, their fundamental value lies in encouraging liberation, a shift away from constructs, in order to view things clearly and, at least in hints, to understand.

A Small Glossary
Central Concepts: discomfort, self-destruction, longing, freedom, conditionality, identity
Central Impression: masochism of ludism, ludistic masochism; provocation

Terms by Levels

Nails: the basis of construction, symbolic danger
Cakes: human creation, symbolic knowledge
Carpet: comfortable domestic discomfort
Sound: personal id, liberating and liberated expression

Taoism: the mysticism of nature resting on two principles; Tao expresses the absolute irrational essence of universal phenomena in nature and within us, while Te/De encompasses the realm of morality, whose ideal wisdom is the liberation from passions
Masochism: directing sadism towards the ego; can be viewed as passivism
Passivism: unconscious, non-creative reaction of human consciousness
Ludism: stylistic and semantic playfulness, improvisation; inventiveness and a tendency toward spontaneity
Compartmentalization (rubrication): the human predisposition to classification and categorization; partial, nominal, illusory reaction

Discomfort: an inherently anti-systemic phenomenon, unavoidable and unstoppable in nature; a call of the spirit
Self-destruction: simultaneously destructive and liberating potential, conformism and resistance; the power to express the essential metaphysics of identity
Longing: an unquenchable desire for something; often presumed to be for transcendence, fulfillment, authenticity, and freedom; however, the extent to which it is a reflection of true nature versus circumstantial expression is questionable
Metaphysics: a realm of curiosity

Masochism: transcendence
Taoist Perspective: a pure gaze that observes without judgment, a merciful curiosity
Non-action: a cognitive achievement, transcending constructs and categorization of thought

Reduced to a few elements, the exhibition addresses the question, “How to reconcile will, the object of desire, and social norms?” By exploring the compartmentalization of cognition, it seeks to detect its effects and human compliance, aiming to recognize the pivotal moment where, through longing and curiosity, these can be transcended.
