Ventilation, Clarinet, and Loops

In a system of reflective pipes, cubes, and welds, the sound of rushing air is created and heard as it caresses metal walls, flowing through openings of air and sound. The performance Ventilation, Clarinet, and Loops by Group ONO combines elements of classical and electronic music, directly referencing and utilizing one of the space’s features—the sound of the garage ventilation system. By playing repetitive clarinet sequences, recording them, and reproducing them live, a minimalist composition emerges that communicates with the empty garage space. This space, with its doors mostly closed, is traversed only by air currents in ventilation, whose fluidity becomes the subject of the performance’s sound. While the ventilation system over there churns smoke and breath through the walls, murmurs, currents, and air openings on this side create sound. After all, what is sound but vibration in the air?
